July 14 Provence - Travel day to Nice

July 14

We leave the Luberon for another part of Provence, the city of Nice on the Cote D'Azur (also called the French Riviera). We drove to Nice and gave up the car for the rest of the trip.
The photo shows the pedestrian street that our hotel was on (rue Messina). After dropping off the car at the train station, we took a cab, but because cars are not allowed, he dropped us off about 2 blocks from the hotel.

One of many fountains in Nice. Notice the beautiful building in the background. Nice is the 5th largest city in France, with about 500,000 people.

This is the main beach, which goes for quite a few kilometres. This was the French National Holiday, so it was especially crowded with locals as well as tourists.

This is the view looking eastward, opposite the beach picture. More of a rocky coast.

Here we are in front of another fountain. Being the National holiday, there were fireworks that night on the beach.
