July 03 Travel to Languedoc-Roussillon

July 03
We leave Barcelona for the region of Languedoc-Roussillon, France. We take a train to the French city of Perpignan, where we pick up our car rental and drive about 30 minutes to a resort town called Canet-en-Roussillon, where Claude and Paulette had access to a timeshare unit. We stayed in Canet for 7 days.

This is the train we took from Barcelona. It is a surprisingly old train by European standards, and seemed a bit rundown inside. We heard that they are building a highspeed train line between Barcelona and the south of France, which will be ready in a year or so, so I guess they don't want to invest too much on this old train.

Darlene catching a quick nap on the trip. The ride was about 3 hours.

We now have a car! We picked up our rental at the Perpignan train station and headed for Canet. Perpignan is a city of about 100,000, similar in size to Moncton or Saint John, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

We are now checked in, and sitting in a small cafe on the resort grounds, for lunch.

The accomodations were basically a two bedroom apartment, with full bath for each room, a small kitchen and a balcony. The resort had a couple of pools, which came in handy in the late afternoon, after a hot July day of sightseeing.

The resort is not on the beach, but the beach is only about a 15 minute drive away. After lunch, we decided to check it out. The town you see in the background is Canet Plage, the beach part of Canet en Roussillon.
